Growing from the ground up

Grass Paramedic is a rising star in the landscaping and gardening industry in the Jeffreys Bay and surrounding areas. Offering gardening solutions to both commercial and residential clients, rejuvenating any garden space to its full potential is what this company is known for.

It all started in 2019 when business owner, Khululekile Mengu noticed a high number of neglected gardens and landscapes in the area. Aware of the depth of poverty and the high unemployment rate, he wanted to start a gardening service which could not only provide a service to the community but also create jobs for local community members. The long-term goal was in sight but with limited resources, growing the business from its initial position to where it needed to be was not possible. Then Khululekile reached out to the Amandla Omoya Trust for support through its call for grants proposals.

With the support of the Trust, Grass Paramedic now employs three local community members full-time. The business is sustainable and can provide a livelihood for their families. The business has grown, covering an even broader area since it started. To meet greater demand, the business bought a bakkie, trailer, lawnmower, grass cutter, blower machine and chainsaw.

“With the support of the Trust, we have overcome challenges and our communities have changed for the better. We thank the Trust for giving us the opportunity.” Khululekile Mengu, Founder of Grass Paramedic
