Supporting small scale farmers to grow their business

Many small-scale farmers battle to get their produce sold because of barriers such as high transportation, labour, and rental costs for space to sell their produce. This results in most of the small-scale farmers’ produce going to waste and being dumped. Freshpride assists with the distribution of small-scale farmers’ produce, contributing towards the development of a local supply chain and greater food security.

The organisation supplies a wide selection of fresh produce such as meat, poultry, fruit, vegetables, dairy, fish and bakeries. The supplies are collected on a weekly basis from farmers and sold in their outlets.

The Amandla Omoya Trust supported the expansion of this local value chain through a grant of R250,000.

“The support of the Amandla Omoya Trust has made a significant difference in our store. With the purchasing of additional equipment for our kitchen, we can now further grow our business.” Lungisile Sukula, Owner: Freshpride.
