In 2020, Lelo’s Biltong Bar was established after owner, Ntsikelelo Sana noticed an increase in people becoming unemployed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Being at risk himself, he wanted to create an opportunity to allow him to continue to provide for his family in the event of him being affected. Fortunately, this was not the case. However others were impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and battled to find work and provide for their families. Ntsikelelo employed two part-time workers from the community, which assisted two families during that difficult time. The business is growing steadily and it is having a positive impact in the community.
Lelo’s Biltong Bar has aspirations of starting a meat handling learnership because of the scarcity of meat handlers in Humansdorp. This will increase the availability of the required skills and create more opportunities for job seekers. With the goal of increasing production and sales at the lowest cost, Lelo’s long-term vision is to be one of the main distributors to the large retail stores in the Kouga region.
