Nosipho Mengu

Nosipho Mengu is a community activist based in Thornhill in the Kouga Municipality. She was nominated by several communities in the Kouga area to be a trustee of Amandla Omoya Trust. A role she holds very important in her life. She comes to the trust with a wealth of experience in community development having been involved with community pre-schools to ensure that children coming from poorer families have a school to go to. With this experience, she ended being appointed to sit at the Board of the pre-school in Thornhill. The issue of land and agriculture is high on the agenda of needs of people in the area, she was actively involved in land and agrarian formations in the area of Kouga, campaigning and negotiating access for land and small scale farming for small scale farms. She then joins the Makukhanye movement that promulgated all issues about the land. An organization that gave rise to many opportunities for learning. She remains actively involved with her Church Community, Ithemba Family Church in Jeffreys Bay that continuously nourishes her faith and continues to be involved in a people-based project of the Church. In Ithemba Family Church she holds a senior position of influence that deepens her faith. She has a strong passion for young people who are keen to initiate or do something about their lives. She sees great potential to her Thornhill community now that the level of disgruntlement has slowly changed because of the involvement of the trust in community building.
